How to Grow Altari Dochon 89 Korean Radishes

Choose a location with adequate soil and sunlight, and prepare by loosening the soil with a shovel or pitchfork. Sow 10 seeds/foot and thin seedlings four to six inches apart. Rows should be 12 to 18 inches apart. Water frequently and fertilize as needed. Avoid adding too much nitrogen to prevent excessive leaf growth.

Harvesting Korean Radishes

Once the radish shoulders begin to show above the soil, they are ready to harvest. Long roots can be fragile so try loosening the soil with a shovel or broadfork. After the soil is loosened, grasp the base of the plant and pull upward firmly.

To store your radishes, cut the tops off a few inches above the root and store in a cold, humid environment, like the refrigerator. Save the tops–they’re edible!

Culinary Tips

Korean radishes have a wide variety of uses! This variety is great for kimchi or other pickling. These are great options for garnishes or side dishes. Additionally, try them sliced by themselves or on sandwiches! If you dislike the bitter taste of typical radishes, try replacing them with these Korean radishes for a more mild flavor.
