Soft White Wheat as a Garden Plant

Prepare your garden bed by amending it with fertilizer or compost, if necessary. Soft white wheat is planted in the fall, as it is a winter wheat. Broadcast the soft white wheat berries over the bed and cover them with about 2 inches of soil. Soft white wheat, like other varieties of wheat, tolerates drought quite well and should only be watered 2-3 times throughout the season.

Soft white wheat has a more delicate gluten makeup than red wheat, this makes it more suitable for a multitude of baking purposes. Many pastries, baked goods, bread, and snack foods are made from soft white wheat. It can also be sprouted and fermented to create rejuvelac.
