Red Storm sunflower microgreen seeds grow exotic red sunflower microgreens that boast all the same flavors and simplicity as traditional Black Oil sunflower sprouts. Try red microgreens sunflower shoots alongside your favorite colorful microgreens seeds and sprouting seeds for bold color on the plate and in the kitchen. Microgreens seeds available for Bulk and Custom Fulfillment.
While there are several dozen colors, shapes, and sizes of sunflower seeds to grow in the summer garden, Black Oil sunflower has been the only sunflower microgreen seeds available for delicious home sprouting until now.
Red Storm sunflower seeds grow rare and exotic red sunflower microgreens in just 7-10 days, no different than Black Oil sunflower shoots. Similar to other popular red microgreens such as red cabbage microgreens or Empress of India nasturtium microgreens, red sunflower microgreens sprout a light pink and red stem while the cotyledons develop a classic chlorophyll green.
Sunflower shoots have taken over the culinary world by storm and, whether you are a hobbyist or professional grower, Red Storm sunflower microgreens seeds wholesale are available in small quantities to commercial bulk.
Red Storm sunflower seeds sprout the same pink and red stemmed microgreens without the robust spiciness of mustard seeds, nasturtium seeds, or radish seeds.
Red Microgreens, Colorful Microgreens, Exotic Microgreens
Microgreen seeds are more popular than ever and, over the last several years, home microgreeners have been broadening their preferences for more varieties, flavors, and colors. Although one of the first pink and red sunflower microgreens, Red Storm is hardly the first colorful microgreens.
Choose from our wide selection of red microgreens, colorful microgreens, exotic microgreens, and rare microgreens to grow alongside your Red Storm sunflower microgreens seeds.
Microgreen seeds are intended for quick 7-10 harvesting as opposed to several months if grown to maturity out in the garden. Like all microgreen seeds, Sunflower microgreens must be presoaked in cold water for about 6-8 hours prior to seeding.
Chose your prefered sized growing tray (3x5, 5x5, 10x10, 20x10) and fill the tray about half full of soil or coco coir.
Evenly spread one layer of the presoaked Red Storm sunflower seeds across the top of your soil and lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil, no more than one inch.
Be sure the sunflower seeds make good contact with the soil because microgreen seeds germinate best with good soil contact.
Sunflower microgreens should begin to visibly germinate within 36 hours, and then place the microgreens tray in full lighting until ready to harvest. Red Storm sunflower sprouts taste best in 7-10 days at about 3-4" tall.
Microgreens Vs Sprouts
Larger and more robust sunflower shoots can only be grown as soil-based 7-10 day microgreens while smaller sunflower sprouts are germinated for a quick 2-3 days before harvesting.
Because sunflower sprouts are grown so briefly, they do not have the time to develop tall shoots or flavorful green chlorophyll like sunflower microgreens.
Many seeds such as sunflower seeds, pea seeds, and radish seeds can be grown as both soil-based microgreen seeds and hydroponic sprouting seeds.
Anyone who's done both understands that these larger seeds perform best from direct soil contact. The classic nutty, savory, and oily flavors can only be achieved via microgreens.
Regardless of type, larger and thicker seeds generally require heat and moisture offered by soil to fully germinate. Smaller and softer seeds such as alfalfa, clover, and lentil merely require a 4-8 hour soaking to begin hydroponic germination.
Although sprouting is much faster than microgreens, the harvest and flavors of microgreen seeds simply can't be beat.
Black Oil Sunflower Seeds
Only until recently Black Oil sunflower seeds were the only commercially sold sunflower microgreen seeds available to the home grower.
While there are nearly countless types of ornamental sunflower seeds, Black Oil sunflower has been the only variety of sunflower microgreens flavorful and tender enough for culinary use. Do not use ornamental sunflower seeds for sprouting or microgreens because many flower seeds intended for outdoor gardening can often be chemically treated to help germination in early spring.
Red Storm microgreens sprout as effortlessly as Black Oil sunflower, requiring the same 7-10 days for full flavored microgreen shoots.
If you've enjoyed the flavor and reliability of Black Oil sunflower microgreens, try Red Storm sunflower microgreens to add a touch of radiance to your next meal.
