Growing Plumosa Asparagus Fern Garden Seeds

Plumosa is popularly sown both indoors as well as outdoors, and can be kept perennially indoors. Seeds can be sown directly just after the frost or, for earliest starts, begin indoors 4-6 weeks prior. Germination can be slow and will occur in 21-35 days with full lighting. Lightly press without covering 3-4 Plumosa seeds 24 inches apart in rich, evenly moist, well-drained soil in partial shade. Asparagus setaceus or more commonly known as Asparagus Fern or Plumosa, is native to southern Africa, but has since been naturalized throughout much of the world in similar climates. Despite plumosa being listed as an invasive species in a number of regions, it is still on of the most internationally favored ornamental grows for florists, offices, and anywhere indoors. The specific name setaceus is derived from the Latin word saeta meaning "hair" or "bristle."
